Clinical Staff Defined
Psychiatrist
A medical doctor with special training in the diagnosis and treatment of mental and emotional illnesses. Like other doctors, psychiatrists prescribe medications and provide ongoing monitoring of the effectiveness of the medications prescribed.
Child/Adolescent Psychiatrist
A medical doctor with advanced special training in the diagnosis and treatment of emotional and behavioral problems in children. Child/Adolescent psychiatrists prescribe medications and provide ongoing monitoring of the effectiveness of the medications prescribed.
Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker
A counselor with a masters degree in an accredited graduate program and two years supervised work experience prior to licensure. Clinical social workers are trained to make diagnoses and provide individual and group therapy.
Certified Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor
A counselor with specific clinical training in alcohol and drug abuse. Trained and licensed to diagnose and provide individual and group counseling in substance abuse.
Clinical Nurse Specialist
A registered nurse with a master's degree and advanced training from a graduate program. A CNS is trained to diagnose and provide individual and group counseling and to prescribe medications.
Registered Nurse
A registered nurse trained to support psychiatrists in the clinical management of their caseloads. An RN, under the supervision of the psychiatrist, monitors benefits and side effects of prescribed medications, explains procedures and treatments to patients, observes and records significant incidents and reactions to drugs for psychiatrist.
Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
A counselor with a master's degree from an accredited program and two or more years of supervised work experience. Trained to work primarily with individuals, couples and families to make diagnosis and provide individual and group counseling.
